Copying perfectly helps to learn the techniques of the old masters, to
understand how they created their works.I decided to copy the two portraits of famous Russian artist of the 19th century Ilya Repin. For this I took paper and charcoal. I toned the paper with black tempera. First I made a light sketch of the head , then gently marked the shade and started modeling the form of lights. When the composition became clear I clarified the facial proportions and with a sharp stroke charcoal drew details. Enough time should be given to drawing the eyes, nose and lips, because they give the character of the man, the resemblance.
